The Drupal development team released versions 7.69, 8.7.11 and 8.8.1, which address several vulnerabilities, including a serious file processing issue.

Drupal developers have released versions 7.69, 8.7.11 and 8.8.1, which address several vulnerabilities, including a serious file processing issue.

The most serious issue is related to the Archive_Tar third-party library, it has been assigned a severity rating of critical. Archive_Tar is a tool designed for handling TAR archive files in PHP. The issue affects Drupal 7x, 8.7.x and 8.8.x versions.

“The Drupal project uses the third-party library Archive_Tar, which has released a security update that impacts some Drupal configurations. Multiple vulnerabilities are possible if Drupal is configured to allow .tar, .tar.gz, .bz2 or .tlz file uploads and processes them. The latest versions of Drupal update Archive_Tar to 1.4.9 to mitigate the file processing vulnerabilities.” reads the security advisory published by Drupal for the vulnerability SA-CORE-2019-012.

The vulnerability has been reported by Jasper Mattsson from the Drupal team.

Drupal CMS uses Archive_Tar, experts pointed out that some configurations are exposed to attacks, websites configured to allow the uploading of TAR, TAR.GZ, BZ2 or TLZ files are at risk.

The development team released version 1.4.9. to address the issue.

The other vulnerabilities addressed by Drupal developers are:

• Drupal core – Moderately critical – Access bypass – SA-CORE-2019-011 – the flaw is an access bypass issue related to the Media Library module that fails to restrict access to media items in certain configurations. ;
• Drupal core – Moderately critical – Multiple vulnerabilities – SA-CORE-2019-010;
• Drupal core – Moderately critical – Denial of Service – SA-CORE-2019-009 – is a denial-of-service (DoS) issue.

The issues, rated as moderately critical, affect versions 8.7.x and 8.8.x.
