Please contact your account manager if you are unable to connect.”

The attack caused a widespread outage that had a significant impacted on the customers, most of which are working from home due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Howaver, the outage was not directly caused by the DDoS but by the response of the internet provider.

“New Zealand’s third largest internet provider Vocus NZ said on Friday its response to a cyberattack temporary triggered a widespread internet outage.” reported theReuters. “The company said its systems blocked a denial of service (DDoS) attack on one user but in doing so caused some Vocus customers in the country’s largest cities – Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch – to suffer outages.”

Some Vocus customers in multiple cities, including Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, suffered outages.

The company quickly restored the operations and apologized for the inconvenience it has caused to the customers.
